Hello,

I am Estrella Morales, a passionate, dedicated and tenacious rising sophomore at Sam Houston State University. I am an ardent student of both Criminal Justice and Psychology. As a modestly proud Hispanic, Asian, and gender-fluid individual, I represent a unique mosaic of cultures and identities that will significantly contribute to the community's diversity. I am delighted and enthusiastic to apply for the Varsity Tutors College Scholarship Contest, and I am confident that this scholarship will not only support my academic trajectory but also provide an invaluable pedestal to further my commitment to academic excellence.

During my high school years, I demonstrated during my time that I was a a committed and intellectually oriented learner, obtaining a high school GPA of 3.8. With a great desire to improve people's lives and make the world a better and healthier place for everybody, I became interested in the disciplines of psychology and criminal justice as a forward-thinking student. Even though I went through a difficult period that caused my college GPA to drop to 2.3, I am more driven and committed than ever to do well in my studies.

My majors have given me a comprehensive grasp of criminal justice systems and human behavior, which has opened up a world of possibilities for healing and change. I think everyone deserves a second shot and that there is hope for recovery. My studies in psychology, which have given me the empathy, understanding, and compassion needed to approach problems from several angles, have strengthened this belief.

Being an underrepresented person in academics, I believe my story has the potential to motivate people from similar backgrounds. Managing conflicting cultural identities and obligations has helped me grow and taught me perseverance. I do, however, recognize that underrepresented people do confront structural difficulties. In addition to using this scholarship to pay for my education, my goal is to demonstrate that, in spite of ongoing obstacles, students from underrepresented groups are capable of achieving success and going above and beyond what is expected of them.

The Varsity Tutors College Scholarship would be a fantastic recognition of the effort I've put into my education and would strengthen my desire to use my understanding of psychology and criminal justice to bring about change. I'm determined to keep up my upward academic trajectory, make use of the tools offered by my university, and—above all—learn from my mistakes in order to raise my GPA.

The possibility of being awarded the Varsity Tutors College Scholarship presents an exciting opportunity. This scholarship can enhance my capability to grow as an individual, improve as a student, and achieve my academic goals. It will also allow me to focus more on my academic endeavors rather than preoccupying myself with the financial aspects of my education.
