FL by Esmeralda - December 2016 Scholarship Essay

The business world undergoes such aspiring growth and change every second. Four years ago my school offered a marketing academy, which to me as an incoming freshman sounded enticing. My experience in the marketing program at my high school by far has helped me innovate my future as well as increase my intellect on business matters. One of the astounding benefits I received from the program was joining my school’s DECA chapter. DECA is a marketing, finance, hospitality, and entrepreneurship club which helps to own your own future and shape your character into a successful innovator and scholar.
Through my four years of involvement in DECA it has become my club and it keeps me wanting more. In DECA we are able to compete by presenting real life scenarios to judges. Last year my largest accomplishment was reached. I was one of the fortunate six students from my school to place at district completion and qualify for state. It was a big deal because my chapter had not made it that far in quite a few years. Even though I did not place for nationals, my experience was unforgettable, it made me love the business world even more, and encouraged me to work twice as hard the next year. My competition event increased my drive and dedication towards a career field that would benefit me in my near future. I competed in the event of professional selling where I had to propose an idea for a website to gain customers from a website designer’s point of view. My research was not a burden, I actually enjoyed looking up statistics and marketing terms to help this business succeed.
Furthermore, DECA has completely shaped the person I am today and I truly believe it. The wonderful club has taught me how to authorize a school wide fashion show with outside sponsors like Rue 21, Buckle and David’s Bridal, in addition I have also raised money through our Zumbathons for the Muscular Dystrophy association and other organizations. Recently we raised $1,338 for breast cancer research to benefit a nearby hospital, and I really am extremely proud of my chapter for that. DECA has given me lifelong friendships that I could have never imagined occurring and incredible ways to network. I am extremely honored to be given the chance of being my DECA chapter’s devoted president this year and every step of the way I hope I am making a difference and impacting someone’s life.
In the business world innovation is key. Everything and everyone is always adapting and changing in social and economical ways. I believe my biggest accomplishment has been joining my school’s DECA chapter and now running it completely. The club has influenced me into choosing what career path I want to take and dove me into my love of finance and business administration. In my role plays throughout competitions I am able to develop real life skills. My experiences in DECA (the Distributive Education Clubs of America) and the marketing academy have shown me how to deal with real life problems and on the spot effective solutions. The business world relies on an idea and then it has the capability of being developed, which is exactly my state of mind. I believe my accomplishment has caused me to be a rising entrepreneur and an innovator. DECA has taught me I would love to own my future and change the world in an epic manner.
