New Year's Resolution by Erykah - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

A New Year’s resolution that will help me become a better student in 2016 is to work on better eating habits. I think it is important to start eating more healthy because not only would it benefit me financially but it's better for my body too. Eating fast food on a daily basis is not good for my health. Although I am young and my metabolism works faster rather than if I was older, it is important for me to take caution of what I put into my body. If I am constantly eating unhealthy food it could cause some serious side effects to my body. Eating fast food does not help with being able to focus and study in class. For example, I leave campus to go to lunch like every other day and if I go and eat a fast food meal, it is hard for me to pay attention in class. This is because of the enzymes in my stomach trying to digest the food I ate. The more unhealthy food I eat the more work my body has to do to digest it. Since my body is trying so hard to digest it, I start to get sleepy and it is hard for me to pay attention in class. This is why I have decided to work on bettering my eating habits.

Eating healthy can benefit me as a student by being able to think better and budgeting my money. If I am eating foods that are good for me then it will help me to focus and learn what is being taught in class. Instead of spending so much money in a week just for food I can save and use that money for something that will be more beneficial. If I start with this resolution now, I feel like it will better prepare me for college as far as saving as much money as I can. I could buy groceries with nutritious food that can stretch for weeks rather than spending money everyday on a meal. I could set up eating logs to make sure I’m constantly feeding my body the nutrients it needs to go throughout the day. If I start to get into the routine of doing this, I will start to feel better about myself; not only my physique but also my mind.
