Favorite School Subject by Erin - April 2013 Scholarship Essay

     There are many subjects that I enjoy learning about.  These subjects range anywhere from psychology courses to physical therapy based courses.  My major for my bachelor's degree was in psychology because I loved learning about all of the different ways people express themselves and ultimately how the brain controls our everyday lives.  Physical Therapy, however, has to be on the top of my list because it is what I have chosen to do for my career.     Ever since I was young, my mom had back problems and I would go with her to her Physical Therapy sessions.  I loved everything about it, including the interventions they performed, what their job consisted of, and especially all of the help they gave my mom in her recovery period.  I knew from then on that this is something I would eventually pursue myself.  Right now, I am in Physical Therapy school, and we take all kinds of classes.  One of my favorite ones is my musculoskeletal course.  We learn all about the body including how it moves, how it processes different information, the types of injuries it can undergo as well as how to treat and make it better.  I enjoy learning these types of things because it is so interesting to me how complex the body really is.  Many people do not realize the millions of commands and processes our body performs everyday.     This class has taught me how to help people who come into my clinic which is the most important aspect of my future job as a physical therapist.  I will be able to recognize the types of injuries that patients have and then be able to execute a treatment plan for them to help them recover and get back to the things they love doing the most.  This class has also taught me to prevent patient injuries through education which is another very important aspect.    Although, there are many things that I enjoy learning about, physical therapy is my passion and cannot be replaced.  I look forward to the many more calsses that will help me become a great healthcare practitioner.
