Inquisitive Minds Want to Know by Erin - November 2018 Scholarship Essay
Every year, every senior is very excited to submit their quote. This may be because it’s something meaningful to them, it is something that is a sum up of their high school years, or it is something they just always looked up to. My senior quote is “I have a question!”
My mind is always wanting to ask some sort of question to further clarify and understand what I am learning. I am a student who always wants to make sure I am doing the correct steps to a problem in math, making sure I’m doing a project the right way my teacher wants it, or asking questions to make sure I am ready for my upcoming test.
Not only do I ask questions while I’m at school, but I’m always asking questions when it comes to playing sports. I ask what I can do better to become a better runner. What can I do to fix my running form? What can I do outside of practice to become faster? Or when I play volleyball, I’m always asking my coach where they want me to pass at or if I made an error, what did I do wrong so I can get a better pass to my setter? I also get a lot of injuries when I play sports, so I ask a lot of questions to my athletic trainer. Even if it’s a small injury, I go in to her to ask more questions so I can learn more about my body and get a further understanding of my injury.
Not only is this implemented in my school and sports life, but it’s also incorporated through my work life. As a young adult, I am now beginning to be in the work force. I have to ask questions based on my job to make sure things are done the proper way. I have to know what is expected of me, so I always make sure I ask lots of questions so I know what I am doing.
The one thing my science teacher in 8th grade always told me was “don’t ever apologize if you have a question.” I will always look up to that and to this day, I always ask lots of questions.
