My Advise to a Second Grader... by Erik - March 2018 Scholarship Essay
I would explain the importance of continued learning to a second grade student the way my parents explained the importance of continued learning to me when I was a second grade student. You have to constantly learn to be great. Even if what you are learning is difficult, you have to go the extra mile and do what your classmates and friends are not willing to do. That is what great people do. Great people never stop learning.
Continued learning will improve your skills in everything you do. Once you see results, you will want to learn more and be better than you already are. You are going to run into difficult situations and probably fail along the way. That is when continued learning will help you get back up from your falls. Continued learning is the price you pay to be great which is why great people want to continue to learn.
Education is a privilege, so take advantage of your education because many kids your age do not receive an education. Ask a lot of questions, be the best student you can be, and be enthusiastic about the challenge of continued learning. What may seem hard, whether it is mathematics or language arts, will start to make sense and get easier as long as you stay persistent and continue working in the areas you need to improve in. Continued learning will help you become anyone you want to be and create unlimited possibilities for you.
Through continued learning, you will gain the skills and knowledge to be able to help your parents. You can progress socio-economically when you learn because the skills you acquire will one day multiply and provide you opportunities your parents never had. You will gain access to great jobs that pay well. You will be able to make a decent income, save money, and provide your loved ones a better future.
As a second grader, continued learning helped me escape from hardships I was facing. It preoccupied my mind. I focused on succeeding in learning and gaining confidence to fight the adversities I was faced with. Succeeding in my own continued learning motivated me to not give up and to empower my parents and my siblings to also learn. Together, we helped each other to move out of difficult situations.
Continued learning also taught me to ask “why” to certain things I was learning and to seek help when I could not figure out something I was learning. I learned that the students who question situations and seek answers eventually learn to believe in themselves more and gain confidence in their capabilities and potential to be successful. I hope that continued learning helps you the same way it helped me. I also hope continued learning will help you become a better person.
