To Ms. Witness by Erica - February 2025 Scholarship Essay

You not only sparked my curiosity in neuroscience and psychology. But within just a semester, you would make a lasting impact on the education that I would love to do in the future. It was simply the lessons we did in psychology that briefly went over the brain and the nervous system. After taking psychology with you, the passion that you had for the subject, I loved being in your classes because it made a lasting impact on my passion for neuroscience. There is so much to learn that it can be overwhelming, but I will always be thankful to her. She was an amazing teacher for the 3 years that I had her. The more I would want to learn about neuroscience. The one lesson that really left a lasting impact was the Gray’s and Matter program that was hosted by the University of Washington. They came to our classroom during this time. The class was in the section of the brain and understanding each part of it and the functions of it. They brought actual sheep brains where we could just cut certain parts of the brain and see what it looks like, and we would ask questions of each section to the group. Not only was the event memorable, but it has helped me with my anatomy and physiology with learning the nervous system as I hope to continue learning in that specific field, and if not, then I hope to gain more knowledge in that area.
