Passion and what it means to me by Erica - July 2019 Scholarship Essay
“Develop a passion for learning, if you do, you will never cease to grow,” Anthony J Dangelo. This is a quote that resonates with me. To me, this is what pushes me through life. Never give up on your dreams, never stop trying, never quit, never let anyone tell you that you cannot do something. A passion for learning means that you never stop learning anything, whether it is general knowledge, work related or new things.
You are open to learning at all times and accepting of new things. You strive to learn about new policies, tactics, words or people. You will not stop until you know what is being taught to you. I personally have made it a point to learn something new every day. Something as small as a new word or what a word means to something big as a new language.
I am passionate about learning history in my spare time, I love knowing what happened to people before I was here and how they survived their every day lives. I love learning about what happened in the early days before technology and why the wars were fought. It makes me feel like I was there when I open a book and transport myself back to that time.
Learning is instilled in us at an early age, beginning from the time we are born, we learn things, such as walking, talking and eating. We teach our children how to do everyday things like brushing their teeth and hair and taking a bath. Later in life, we learn how to read and add and subtract. In high school we learn about economics, American government and calculus. College teaches us how to manage our time and study harder than we ever have before.
By learning something new I am always growing in some way, when I learn new words, I expand my vocabulary, when I learn a new math technique I can apply it something in life, when I learn about history, I understand a little more about what happened to this world before I became a part of it.
I never want to stop learning new things, I want to continue to grow and expand my thoughts and life until I cannot do it anymore. When that happens, I want to be able to pass that knowledge onto someone else, my own kids or my nieces and nephews. I want to be able to answer their questions and help them throughout their lives.
