My senior quote would be a reference to the famous Jim Carrey's quote of, "You can fail at what you don't want, so might as well take a chance at doing what you love." I would alter this quote a little in saying, "You cannot succeed unless you have satisfied yourself." the reason I would use this as my senior quote is because I'm a firm believer that following the basics and continuing down the path that everyone else has taken is stupid. I want to be an author and a filmmaker because as a child I was obsessed with the ability of turning an idea that was completely self generated into a piece that could be presented to others. But I have been pressured and swamped by others telling me that my dreams, just aren't realistic. That my dreams aren't safe and that I don't have a chance and should take the easier route.
Despite the pessimism I received I decided to take their advice but also reject it. I am adopted. I was adopted when I was two months old from a drug abusing mother into a home where I actually stood a chance. My parents decided after twelve years of being an only child that it was time to add to the family and have been fostering since. Currently I have four siblings whose adoption papers just finished and they are now officially apart of the family. These kids have been doubted as I have been because they weren’t dealt an easy hand. And I realized how I wanted to help other kids who weren’t given the same odds most kids were. I decided I wanted to be a pediatric nurse in which I can impact or save children's lives everyday. I would be making the change I hoped my writings would do and would have financial security.
I’m not giving up my dreams of being the next author who brings books back into the mainstream. I’m only strengthening the soul in which I share. By becoming a pediatric nurse and listening to what others tell me I will also deny them the opportunity to tell me that they were right. So that's why my senior quote would be "You cannot succeed until you have satisfied yourself." Because success is something only you can achieve for yourself.
