My American Dream by Emmi - March 2025 Scholarship Essay

After high school, I plan on attending USF to pursue my dream of becoming a nurse. I think my dream of becoming a nurse came from the realization that I enjoy helping others. The root of helping others is having compassion and empathy; putting yourself in someone else's shoes. I do not think compassion is something that you are born with, but I do believe I have learned to have compassion for others during the 17 years of my life.
By becoming a nurse, I aspire to provide care, not just with my medical knowledge, but with empathy and understanding, always treating others with dignity. I hope to settle down and find a nursing position in southwest Minnesota where I can receive a steady income. Alongside my career, I envision building a strong and loving family somewhere close to where I grew up because I have always appreciated the values and relationships of a small knit community. I want to keep community service incorporated in my life as an adult because it has been a big part of my childhood experience starting with K-Kids, going into honor’s society and FFA. At the core of all my aspirations is the desire to be a good person- someone who upholds integrity, kindness, and respect in both my personal and professional life. By achieving these goals, I hope to contribute to the well-being of others and continuously grow as a person.
