Individual Projects vs. Group Projects by Emmaline - December 2017 Scholarship Essay
In school, there are numerous amounts of different projects, both independent and group, within the classes an individual may take. Although some may prefer to work alone, there are some who would rather work in a small group and divide the work between the members. Each method can be accomplished in a sufficient way and be completed appropriately and systematically.
When it comes to completing a project individually, there is less reliability since one individual is responsible for the whole project. Along with this idea, an individual can also format the project in their own personal preference and ensure all of the required information is included within the project. There is some personal connection between the project and the individual, especially if the project is over a topic the individual is passionate about. There is more freedom when it comes to designing, researching, and putting together the project; there are no conflicts nor is there a need for a compromise when completing the project. Personally, I believe that completing a project individually can help guarantee less stress when it comes to actually working on the project. It is entirely personal preference when doing an individual project, but I believe it can be done and it can be formatted to the individual’s personal preference.
On the other hand, some may prefer to work in a small group of people, which can result in less work for each individual. However, this does come with more reliability, as each part is divided up and each person has a responsibility to complete their assigned part to ensure every participant receive credit as a whole for the project. There is less individualism when it comes to group projects, since each person has the opportunity to include their opinion and influence the project as a whole. Each group member must come to an agreement between each other when it comes to completing the project and ensuring it is completed efficiently. However, there is one major complication when it comes to group projects; when one individual in the group attempts to take control of the entire project and influences all other members to comply with their desires for the project. When it comes to group projects, I personally believe that it depends on the individuals in the group. Some groups may work well together and complete the project efficiently and without conflict, while others may not correlate and have conflicts when working together. Therefore, it all depends on the person and the individuals in the group, but I believe there is always a compromise to assist those in a rough patch when completing a project.
Altogether, projects can be completed in various different ways with numerous amounts of different formats and methods of completion. In the end, it all depends on the individual at hand and what their personal preference is when it comes to school projects. Each of the two methods entail their own characteristics as well as conflicts, whether it is about the project itself or the student(s) involved.
