My Reason Why by Emma - April 2025 Scholarship Essay

The major I plan to study in college is health science. I believe this is the best choice major to pick for my career because I will get to study a broad variety of sciences about the human body. I think biology would be great to learn about because I believe it is important to acknowledge how living organisms function and their characteristics. Since I want to pursue a career in helping people that are ill, studying biology will allow me to better understand how humans function and how they are structured. This allows me to become confident in what and who I am working with. Having confidence in myself will in turn influence my patients to be confident in me, and reassure them in any of their doubts. When I graduate college I hope to pursue a career in radiology technology. I have heard many reasons why people do not want to have this as a career. One being, that they cannot handle seeing sick child patients because it is a sad environment. This reason just gives me more motivation to become a radiology technologist because I want to be the one to lessen sad situations. One thing that I want to gain from my patients is their trust and to do that I have to be self reliant on what I know and what I have learned. Majoring in health science will help me connect with my patients further and will make them more comfortable with me. Learning more in health science will also make me more knowledgeable in anatomy, physiology, histology, and genetics. These subjects are just as important to the human body as biology. Broadening my skills will give me access to all the knowledge I will need in order to start working on the human body. My interest in the human body will not only help me in the future, but also others' futures as well.
