The teacher who shaped my future. by Emma - March 2013 Scholarship Essay

The most influential teacher I ever had was a math teacher I had in high school. I had him for three years for Algebra 1, 2 and AP Statistics. Over those three years he taught me more than just math. I was never very talented when it came to mathematics and he was very patient and helped find ways to teach me skills that I needed to do well. During that time he also taught me a lot about using math to save money for the future. He was a very knowledgeable person and gave me good advice on everything from choosing a major in college, to making investments, to even dating and marriage. He had served in the military and was so full of knowledge and was very willing to share that knowledge with his students. During after school tutoring sessions with our teacher my two friends and I would get help with our math homework and he would answer any other questions we may have. He gave very sound advice and over those three years helped us all grow. Because of his guidance that I received during my time in high school I believe that I have become a better person .
