What lessons learned in 2022 will impact your goals for 2023? by Emma - December 2022 Scholarship Essay
The year 2022 has been very memorable for me. My workload has definitely kept me busy. Not only have my classes been challenging, but I have participated in many activities and competitions. Future Farmers of America (FFA) is a very rewarding program for students, but is also very challenging and requires lots of practice and studying for the competitions. So far this year, I have received 1st place individual and 1st place team in the Conservation District Forestry Judging Competition; received 10th place individual and 1st place team in the State Forestry Career Development Event and will compete at Nationals in October 2023; and received 1st place senior division goat showmanship at our 4-H and FFA Livestock Show and Sale. I also hold three officer positions within my school and clubs.
Some of the non-school activities that I participated in were volunteering as a Veterinary Assistant at a Regional Livestock Market, washing dogs at a local Pet Parlor, trimming goat hooves, and helping with a canned food drive that we delivered to apartments for the elderly. Needless to say, it has been a busy year. One lesson I learned is that I can do anything that I put my mind to. Even though there were times I missed relaxing on the couch or taking a nap, I have gained so much knowledge this year. I don’t regret any of it.
Some of my goals for 2023 are to maintain my 4.0 grade point average, become an active club member in college and work towards my Bachelor’s degree. I would also like to continue volunteering, so that I can continue helping others.
Even though I enjoyed all of the hard work this past year, one of my goals for 2023 is to set aside a little free time for myself. That way I can stay focused and pursue my dream of working with large animals.
