My Dream Job by Emma - February 2019 Scholarship Essay

I have always known that I want to work in the healthcare field, but my high school courses, as well as my family, have helped me narrow down my career choices. I aspire to graduate from nursing school and then work towards my Master’s of Science in Nursing. After obtaining a postgraduate degree, I plan to specialize in dermatology.

My father is a critical care nurse and mother is a speech pathologist at our local hospital, so I was introduced to the field of healthcare at a very young age. I began volunteering with a pediatric physical therapist at the hospital when I was 15. I was permitted to shadow my mom and watch my dad when I volunteered which led me to loving the field of healthcare even more and allowing me to receive first-hand experience.

Working in healthcare would give me the opportunity to literally change people’s lives; develop unique, close relationships with co-workers and families; and allow me to travel the globe to provide care to anybody in need. More specifically, working in the realm of dermatology will give me the chance to improve people’s self-confidence, rid some of cancer, and be able to truly change some people’s personality and overall perspective of life. There is such a close tie between the psychology of a human and dermatology and I want to be a part of this connection and be able to bring joy to others.
