Future Presidents? by Emma - August 2017 Scholarship Essay
If I were to teach a college course, I know without question that at this point in my life, I would teach one about history, particularly about the former Presidents of the United States. From the time I was little, I have always been fascinated by the Presidents, and would always look at the posters on the wall of my classrooms with all their faces on it. From those moments in elementary school until now, I have always been curious about the details of the Presidents, and have taken it upon myself to learn as much about all of them as I possibly can. I can recite all of them in order by memory, and think that I have learned enough at this point in my life to teach a class on it.
Certain Presidents fascinate me more than others, ones that wouldn't necessary interest other people. I have researched all of the Presidents on an individual basis, and know many small facts about most of them. For instance, I know that William Henry Harrison was the ninth commander-in-chief, and he was the one with the shortest tenure. Serving only thirty-one days in office, Harrison died shortly into his term after coming down with a condition that killed him. His grandson, Benjamin Harrison, served as the twenty-third President, being the only two Presidents who are related to each other in that regard.
Of course, I would go into many more details and much more depth if I was teaching an actual college course. I would cover policy and statistics, rather than fast-facts about the Presidents. I would actually be riveted by teaching this type of class, and will consider becoming a professor someday.
