2016 NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION TO BECOMING A BETTER STUDENT
The year is 2016 and I have chosen my first New Year’s Resolution. In order to become a better student I have decided to quit sugar. This seems silly to some but, in fact sugar is more addicting than cocaine. On "CBS This Morning," Dr. Mark Hyman said, "In animal studies, they find that the rats go for the sugar and that it's eight times as addictive as cocaine.”
I personally decided to stop sugar because of the way it makes me feel mentally and physically. I notice myself becoming more hyper or over sensitized after consuming a sugary drink or eating too many holiday treats. Due to this type of mental reaction I have decided to stop sugar and allow my brain to work for me and not against me. This will help me remain focused and become a better student. In a world of glamorized sugar-loaded coffee and energy drinks it’s easy to get caught up in all the hype.
As most of you are aware too much sugar in our diet can result in poor health. I physically feel anxiety and I lack concentration after consumption. By removing this stimulant from my diet I have allowed my body to replace the excessive sugar with that of fruit or sugarless gum. It’s an amazing feeling to feel focused both mentally and physically. I can honestly understand why my parent’s never allowed sugary cereal at home or too much candy. Don’t tell them, but I finally understand.
