My greatest educational aspect by Emily - November 2015 Scholarship Essay
The aspect of my education I am most thankful for is my English teacher, from grade nine through eleven, Mr. Pitts. I had the honor of being a part of his class for three consecutive years. He not only taught me a great deal of English in his class, but I also learned public speaking skills.
Mr. Pitts style of teaching was like no other teacher I have ever had. He taught English in ways so that you will never forget it. We would have weekly grammar test so we knew how to write and speak correctly. I also had the honor of taking one of his ACT prep classes. In this class our focus was to learn the skills needed to excel on the ACT. This helped me tremendously when I took my ACT, and my scores reflected it. Thankfully, from being in his class for three years my English ACT score was my highest score and it said I was College ready in that subject.
Also, in his class we had to do four debates per year. Thus, he knew I had trouble speaking in front of others he urged me to participate in the debate. Although, at the time is was not too esthetic about speaking in front of others, I am now thankful for him urging me to do so. The first few debates that we did I stumbled greatly, but by the end of the year my public speaking skills improved and I was doing great in the debates. Now I have no fear of public speaking thanks to Mr. Pitts. I have now had the courage to speak in front of my whole senior class without even stumbling. I have been able to demonstrate this ability on many occasions this year and I know I will do well in my college career also.
I am most thankful for being a part of Mr. Pitts class for three years of my education. If I had not had the honor experiencing him in my high school career my ACT score would not be as high, and I would still have trouble with public speaking. Mr. Pitts class will always be a class that I remember and will always be thankful for.
