College for me by Emily - July 2015 Scholarship Essay

This year I will begin my freshman year at the University of Kansas. When preparing yourself for this next step, you think about the many new opportunities you will have. At this point, you also have to start thinking about what you want to gain from these next years at college.

Besides graduation, a goal I have set for myself is to open myself up to new things. I am from a small town of 1200 people. What I am used to is way different than what college will be like. In my town, you knew everyone and you were friends with everyone. You had the sports everyone played, and clubs everyone joined. But, with college its a whole new world. I have discovered at the University of Kansas, there are tons of student organizations to join. I have looked into the sporty ones, because I do enjoying playing, but I also looked into some that I never even thought I would consider.

Another goal I have for myself, is to study abroad and discover other cultures. This was a thought that crossed my mind, but I never thought I'd be able to talk myself into it. Learning about other cultures and their traditions is something that intrigues me. I hope to be able to get the chance to study abroad.

These are just two goals of mine that I have set so far. I have plenty more I could go on about, but these are the main. College is a great learning experience and a chance for people to open up and try new things. I am excited to get started and find my true self.
