Becoming a Better You by Emily - April 2015 Scholarship Essay
As the oldest sibling in my family, I have always strived to be a better person of who I was yesterday. My parents taught me to be a role model for my two younger sisters and eventually my younger cousins on my mom’s side of the family. Therefore, as I have grown up, I have tried to become a better person and I knew one way to do that was through my education.
Through education, research and learning, we able to discover untold amounts of knowledge. This kind of knowledge is very valuable and a lot of people take it for granted every single day. Some people can’t or aren’t allowed to go for school and they see opportunities slipping away through their fingers just because they don’t have an education. They know they have potential, but without the ability to get an education, they are not able to become the best person they can be.
This is why I think the purpose of an education is to become a better person. One of the ways to grow is through knowledge and one of the best ways to obtain knowledge is through an education. In the right hands, knowledge can do a lot of good such as help sick people, feed the hungry, and potentially bring about world peace.
