Education: An Opportunity for Growth by Emily - April 2015 Scholarship Essay
The purpose of an education, for me, is threefold. An education is essential to ignite my passion, give me purpose and direction, as well as give me confidence in my field.
My experience with education is that it helped me to realize what I was passionate about. My first year of study was very general, and helped me realize that I was attracted to health and medicine. From there, I was able to delve much deeper into specific modalities that I’m very excited about.
I’ve spent time in school, and I have taken time off. I’ve found that when I’m in school, working hard to move closer to my goals, I feel much more fulfilled. Working in retail and customer service does not give me the same sense of satisfaction. Education gives me freedom and makes available so many opportunities. Without an education, I struggle to find my place in the world. With an education, I’m excited to see how the rest of the world will fit into my dreams.
Education is essential for gaining confidence in one’s field. In two years, I will graduate as a licensed primary care physician. Without an education, I would just be a woman in a white coat, which would be a terrifying prospect for my patients! The hours spent studying and gaining real life experience in clinics will make me a more confident and trusted physician.
I do think that it is possible to be successful without an education, and I admire those who are. For me, an education is a necessity to chase my passion, give me direction, and help me to gain confidence in my field.
