Time Management as a Teen by Emily - February 2023 Scholarship Essay

My sophomore year of high school was completely online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Whether I wanted it to or not, I was forced to become responsible for my learning on a much higher level. Through this experience, I realized the importance of time management. In my experience, I would have up to four virtual calls a day. Other than that, it was up to me to take notes, study, and complete my assignments in a timely manner to have them turned in by 3:08 pm each day.

As I transitioned back into “in-person school”, I carried my learned time management skills with me. Setting “goal timers” and prioritizing my classes/workload was of the most importance upon returning. Learning to manage my time within the school setting has allowed me to be successful in my grades and extracurriculars. Time management will also allow for an easier transition into “the real world”.

If it weren’t for this unfortunate time of COVID, I would not have been able to gain the knowledge and skills I’ve acquired today. Soft skills aren’t outwardly taught in schools today, I think they are often learned in the most inconvenient of times, and because of that, stick with us for a much longer time.
