What Success Means to Me by Emily - February 2021 Scholarship Essay
College has always been very important to me. As long as I can remember, I have tried to achieve the best grades to compete with my peers to get accepted into college. My family does not treat college as an option but rather as a necessary next step after high school. While this may feel suffocating to some people, it never bothered me because I would choose to go to college anyways to further embrace myself in knowledge that is interesting to me. I plan to have a successful career and college is the next step in reaching my goals and pursuing my dreams.
I define success as setting an attainable goal and achieving it. The largest and most important goal I have ever had was to be accepted into the Engineering College at NC State and fortunately, I accomplished this goal. I believe success is earned, not achieved through luck. My acceptance into NC State is a good example of my definition of success because I set a goal for myself, worked extremely hard to get it, and eventually achieved my goal. I think to be successful, I need to continue setting goals for myself as I progress through my life. My next goal may be to secure an internship and then to get a job I love in the field I adore. I believe a truly successful person is always striving to be greater while appreciating what they have accomplished.
