Identity and Impact: The Necessities for a Nobel Prize Winner by Emily - December 2018 Scholarship Essay
A Nobel Prize recipient is awarded for their contribution to society. They have gone above and beyond the average standards to try and improve the lives of others. Of all the qualities a Nobel Prize winner should possess, the most notable of them all are identity and impact.
Identity is what truly defines a Nobel Prize recipient. He or she must be strongly passionate about their beliefs and make themselves recognizable for their actions. For example, Nobel Peace Prize recipient Martin Luther King Jr. was known for his indestructible passion for racial equality. He was famous to people because he worked diligently to achieve this goal and he is credited with helping end racial inequality for society during his time. This allowed him to be associated with the identity of a hard-working man who respectfully, and peacefully, help advance the next steps towards equality for all U.S. citizens. Evidently, identity shapes a Nobel Prize winner because this shows how society recognizes their actions and remember their bravery/service.
The recipient's impact on society is another important factor that plays into the selection of the winner. The committee should ask, "How has this person helped impact our society in a positive way?". A recipient should be an individual who is known by almost every U.S. citizen and has affected their lives in some form. A recipient's impact should change people's view about the recipient's beliefs and make them support their idea. Impact plays a crucial role in the validation of a Nobel Prize winner because it defines the cause behind their prize selection.
Identity and Impact work together to create the most logical selection for a Nobel Prize winner. These qualifications help define what a true recipient looks like; he or she has taken the extra steps to help benefit our society for its best interest. Nobel Prize winners make an impact in different areas that shape how our society functions today.
