Thinking outside the box by Emily - October 2018 Scholarship Essay
Thinking outside the box. Some people might jump at the chance to do this while others might cringe. What does thinking outside the box really mean? I believe that there is a different definition for each and every person. People who are very straight-laced might think that thinking outside the box might just mean using a different tool to complete a process. People who are super creative might think that it refers to changing everything you know and try something crazy. To me, thinking outside the box means taking a risk to try something new whether you succeed or fail.
Trying something new can be scary. Everyone has had a moment where they are told to do something, and they panic because they have never performed it before. I would consider myself one of those people who fear new things, so thinking outside the box is difficult for me. I sometimes can think of a new way to do something, but I struggle to put it into action. I know that everyone can benefit from thinking outside the box even if it is hard to put it into action. Thinking differently can only help a person and never hurt them. Discoveries of many kinds only happened because people decided to think outside the box.
Although some people struggle to think outside the box, it is very helpful. I think that thinking outside the box means to simply try something new and a practice a different way. Whether it is a huge leap and changing your life, or just switching the way you cook supper every night, thinking outside the box has benefited our society for a long time.
