If I were a Teacher by Emily - October 2016 Scholarship Essay
If I were a teacher I think I would teach about child development in a high school. Although I am in school to be nurse, I do not have enough knowledge yet to teach about it. I would like to work with infants when I do become a nurse, and I currently work at a day care center while going to school. I think I have lots of knowledge on the subject of children; how they should develop, normal variations, and how to care for and interact with them. I think this would be an enjoyable course to teach, and would have a lot less stress on the students than a math or science course.
This class is something that I think could be very hands on, and as a hands on learner I think that is how I would probably teach as well. There are so many things this class would need to be taught how to do, especially when teaching about the infant stage. Infants need to eat and be changed, but they can do very little for themselves. Students who have no experience with children would need to be shown how to do these things, and I think that I would be very good at that.
This course ties into my studies really well too. Nurses need to know if a child is developing properly in order to provide good care. So this is a course that is somewhat related to my goal, but is still something that I believe that I can teach at this point.
