Critical Thinking Skills by Emilee - April 2015 Scholarship Essay

As someone who aspires to become a teacher, education is very important to me. In my opinion, the purpose of education is to help children and young adults developed critical thinking skills, and to prepare these students for any career or work field that they find themselves in. From the time a child is able to make sounds and grab things, they should be taught or instructed to further their curiosity and developed their minds.

Likewise, as a child attends elementary school, they should be encouraged to think deeply and to be challenged in their studies. Teachers should focus their attention not only on repetition but on development of skills. It is not only important to be able to solve the math problem correctly, but it is equally important to be able to apply the math to life and the everyday.

During middle and high school, children should further their education through intense but enjoyable courses that speak to their strengths and weaknesses. Not every child excels in math or English; however, it is important to know how to speak well, as well as, understand how to graph a parabola. Not every students loves to learn facts in history class or science labs, but both have great importance in understanding and communicating well with the world around us. The purpose of education is to help students grow to see their strengths and weakness but also challenge them to developed their skills beyond their natural capabilities.
