My Gap Year by Emalie - August 2019 Scholarship Essay

Before I answer the question, I’d like to give a little background about who I am to help you understand what I would do with a gap year. Currently, I am a senior in high school. I attend Kearney High School in Missouri, a rather small school. I am taking one college course that is offered through my school, along with another college preparatory class. I have great grades, and a good ACT score. My grades and studies come before everything else. I am also a female wrestler, and I compete in pole vaulting in the track season. I have participated in the sport of wrestling for 11 years. When I’m not worrying about my school work, I am determined to better myself in any way, whether it be on the mat or who I am as a person. I love giving back to my community and giving my free time to helping others, as well as trying new things. I volunteer to help coach two youth wrestling programs throughout the year. Between school, my athletics and volunteering, I do not have much time left, therefore I currently do not have a job.
Now that you hopefully have learned a little bit about me, with a gap year, if I were to take it right after my senior year, I would get a steady job with a good income and save the money to help with my college funds. I would also continue to train with wrestling, because I would like to have a chance to compete at the college level. I would continue to also help out the youth teams with whatever they need, and do anything else around my community that needs to be done. I would also continue my studies, so I don’t get behind or “forget” anything once I continued my education. I also would consider traveling a little bit. I have always wanted to travel and see the world that I live in and learn more about this wonderful place so many people call home. I’d love to learn how people in other countries live and what their lives are like and just how different my life is compared to theirs. I would also like to be able to teach them a little about how my life here in Missouri is, while learning about how their life is, wherever they live.
I know there are a lot of people that are submitting applications to this chance at a scholarship, but I greatly appreciate you taking the time to read my application and lean about who I am, as well.
