The goal of a man splattered in ink by Elliott - April 2026 Scholarship Essay
I am nothing short of a visual artist who constantly goes “I have to save this tutorial video, I'll totally use it!” and 3 months later I still haven’t touched it and i’m stuck because of my lack of anything new happening or evolving in my drawings. This is what I would consider a big hurdle that always upsets me because its not that there is a lack of not wanting to learn, quite the opposite in fact but with what feels and is in fact an infinite amount to learn about making visual art it becomes unmanageable and overwhelms me before I even start. My goal is to improve my way of learning and what I've done with the information I've learned, especially when it comes to my art.
This goal has led me into planning on majoring in studio art, and applying myself fully to building my techniques throughout the next couple of years in my college career by attending a multitude of classes. There will also be an adjustment in how I pace myself, and I’ve personally learned that I lean more into a slower more hands on approach when it comes to art. With a better understanding of how I can digest what I learn to use in what I really care about, a massive improvement, though it may take many years, will occur.
In my current starting phase alongside methods I have recently been integrating into how I work now I can’t wait to see how much I can improve in the next couple of years!
