School Is your Own Destiny by Ellie - October 2022 Scholarship Essay
Education is a privilege. Any and every person that receives any type of education has the access to achieve their dream job. On the other hand, education can be very manipulative. It can prepare you for further classes, or also It can be rewarding, stressful, and sometimes even scary.
School to me means freedom. Gaining your college degree can bring many benefits that could potentially set you up for your idea of a perfect life. My idea of a perfect life would consist of being a mom, and being able to provide great things for my family. Without college, med school, and a degree I could not achieve my dream life. After college, you decide your career path and you get to decide on your dream life, whether that's working as a big, and powerful surgeon, or working at Mcdonalds. The biggest benefit in getting to choose your education is getting to choose how much money you could possibly make. For example, going into the medical field you could be a nurse or go all the way through school to become a surgeon. As you may be able to tell I would love to be involved in the medical field, specifically helping children. I would be the first person in my family to receive any type of education past high school, and I take pride in that. My parents used to ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I would think to myself “If money was not in the equation…?” If nurses, surgeons, anesthesiologists, etc. were not paid what they are right now, I would still choose that as my profession, all because I love to help people.
High school to me means doubt. High school for me has been a wild ride, especially senior year. Senior year is when all the decisions you have been putting off are suddenly upon you. You have to decide whether you want an education or not. Trading school, hair school, college, they are all in your hands, and it all depends on your work ethic. Your entire school career matters your senior year no matter how much you might want to take it back. All of those essays, or easy assignments you might be putting off matter. One small letter grade could be holding you back from your dream school. For me, doubt means drive. The drive to be better, maybe even fix that one letter grade, or be the first person in your family to be a doctor.
In conclusion, school to me means everything. It might not seem like it to some people but it is my entire life. Without gaining a good education you could potentially lose your dream life right in front of your eyes. Take school seriously, find that drive, and use your doubt or fears as motivation.
