The cabin in the summer by Ella - August 2024 Scholarship Essay

Hi, My name is Ella Hornung. I will be graduating from Hill-Murray high school in May of 2025. My most meaningful summer experience is going up to my grandparents cabin throughout the summer. Going to the cabin always starts with the long car ride of not being able to sit still because of the excitement of being able to go to the cabin. Once we arrive at the cabin everyone rushes into the cabin to throw their clothes bags out to put their swimsuit on the go jump in the lake. But being stopped before jumping in to get reminded we need to put on sunscreen first. After putting our sunscreen on we are finally ready to jump into the lake. We swim around while we wait for the adult to be ready to take us out on the boat. Once they are ready we get to go on the boat and tube, ski and surf all day long. Once we come in we change out of our swimsuits and put on your long pants and sweatshirts to head out and fish off the end of our dock and watch the sunset. Once the sun starts to set we get to start the fire and make our smores. After all that is done and over with, we head inside and get ready for bed. I always sleep on the pull out couch because of the big window in front of it so I can watch the sunset while I wake up and get out of bed and get ready for what the next day holds. While at our cabin we try and get the most out of it so we always try and get out and about even on rainy days. On rainy days we like to go out to the shops and walk around the shops as well as getting ice cream. The cabin is like a home away from home. Food is always better at the cabin and my screen time always goes down while at the cabin because I always try and make the most of it because I should never take it for granted.
