Malcolm X believed that “Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today". To me, education is the opportunity to shape the world around one’s self. Education has allowed me to find the path where I want my future to go.
Education allows people to transcend boundaries. Learning about different parts of the world allows students to gain a grasp of the world beyond their backyard. Education is an international passport. Education is a privilege that no one can let slip through their fingers. Education has allowed me the ability to dive deep into different cultures. Exploring my family’s former hometown in the Dominican Republic granted me a new perspective. A culture that was entirely foreign to me was revealed to me through an untraditional form of education. Education through exploration is unparalleled in comparison to conventional classroom activities.
Education is fundamental in granting people the ability to take control of their life by preparing for their future. Unfortunately, equality in education is a pressing issue in today's society. While volunteering at my local public library, I assisted with an introductory STEM program for children. Through this program known as Tinker Tuesdays, I aided a librarian in helping foster creativity in children through hands-on activities. This program allowed children to discover the impact of science in an enjoyable way. The public library gave me access to such a vital source of knowledge that shaped my perspective when I was younger, and I was so proud of being able to give back. I believe that it is critical that everyone has access to quality education to prepare for their future.
It is vital that education is recognized for the power that it offers. Intelligence comes in many forms, through many different avenues. Education is a tool that can make dreams a reality. Education allowed me the opportunity to attend my dream school, make amazing friends from all over the world, and explore a variety of fields until I found my passion in computer science. Education is the passport that opened the once-closed borders to my ambitious plans for the future.
