A Fine Dine With The Man Himself: John Lennon by Elizabeth - February 2016 Scholarship Essay

When asked the question, "If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would you choose?", the first name that pops into my head is John Lennon. Why John Lennon, you may ask? Well my answer to that is, why not?

Ever since I was young, John Lennon was a huge aspect of my life. I was told that when I was a baby, the only way I would ever go to sleep was if John Lennon was singing. I grew up listening to him on long road trips and became an even bigger fan as the years went on. At the age of 4, I bawled my eyes out for 3 straight hours when my mom informed me that John Lennon wasn't alive and that he hasn't been alive since 1980. It was probably the most devastating moment of my 4 year old life. Ever since then, I've been a die hard fan.

So back to the question on why I would have dinner with him, I think he was one of the most brilliant artists of all time. The lyrics that he wrote were so powerful and inspiring and it would be an honor to sit in front of him and swap conversations. I think that the way he got his message out about peace, love, and happiness will forever be remembered and will continue to inspire people for years to come.

Many celebrities don't use their music to inform the word of what actually matters, but John used his music to spread a message to people that could contribute to changing the world, and that is one of the reasons why I look up to him so much. Lennon was an influential person who used his music to make people more aware of peace and love.

One of my favorite quotes my John Lennon is, "My role in society, or in any artist's or poet's role, is to try and express what we all feel. Not to tell people how to feel. Not as a preacher, not as a leader, but as a reflection of us all." If I were able to sit down and have dinner with him, I'd ask him his thoughts and ideas on improving our world today.
