The Power of Stories by Elizabeth - April 2023 Scholarship Essay
“Let’s write a book!” I exclaim to my friend. Spring break has hit us and we have no concept that our free time is limited. We are young and hungry to make a change.
“What are we going to write? Who even wants to read our book?” She looks at me doubting my hair-brained idea.
What she doesn’t know is that this is my dream. I have always loved reading and coming up with stories to tell. As I grew up, I learned a lot about the way that stories have shaped my perception of life and people. So many authors have had an impact on me: Rick Riordan, Veronica, and at some point, in my youth Stephanie Meyer. The excitement over reading books or any story was never ending. I learned all about Greek mythology, vampire love lives, and the scary dystopian future. These were not only fun to read, but they taught me about so many different complexities in ways that people think.
The biggest barrier to me was that not everyone would happily There are so many people who did not get this same love for reading. If I had all the time and money in the world, I would want to bring the love for stories to everyone. I would want to travel all over to bring stories regardless of the time it takes to get people to love reading and the money it costs to bring books to everyone. I know convincing someone to love reading is hard, but I think that there is a huge benefit to have stories in your life. It could range from non-fiction books to comic books. If someone is reading about something that they are interested in, I think that is a success. I want to bring people that joy and excitement that I feel.
