A Light for Many by Elizabeth - February 2020 Scholarship Essay
When I think about helping others, my immigrant community is the first group I would want to help. This group has overcome so much adversity in recent years, and they should have opportunities available to them. Whether it is school-related, or job-related, they need to have a support group that allows them to become better people and citizens.
If I were to start a nonprofit organization, the beneficiary would be immigrant children and families. I believe this group has faced many difficulties and not many organizations have been willing to help this community. Immigrants make numerous sacrifices to move from one country to another and they should have help in making their dreams come true. Both children and adults leave their loved ones behind while seeking their dreams, which can affect their emotional stability. Numerous factors take part in reaching a goal, and there should be an organization with resources to make this process faster and easier. My nonprofit organization would help welcome immigrants into the country rather than shame them. It would allow immigrants to learn a new language and provide them with job and career opportunities. In addition to making them feel welcomed, it would benefit newcomers by being well prepared to live here.
Through this organization, people will be able to share their talents and abilities. They would develop skills and characteristics to adapt to this new country as well. People will grow as individuals, become more empathetic, and have more unity within themselves. Whenever someone has the chance to help someone else in a less fortunate situation, they should offer their services and that is what this organization would do for the immigrant community.
