From Nothing to Everything by Elizabeth - January 2020 Scholarship Essay

I was homeschooled for two years. Just the two. In second grade, I began public schooling. On my very first day, I learned more about the world than I had learned in both years prior.
Since it was the early 2000's, we didn't have high speed internet or tablets or smartphones at home. We had Powerpoint and Word.
When I entered public school, I learned quickly that projectors weren't reserved for Sunday morning worship services. Teachers used them in the classroom. Since then, my technology capabilities have increased immensely and I have learned more about troubleshooting and coding my computer than I ever thought I would know.
Just this year, my entire school has upgraded from regular TV's and smartboards that didn't work to Smart TV's with Apple TV availability. We've also been given ten IPads for each classroom on top of our old laptops and Chromebooks. My learning ability has not only flourished with this technology, but it has improved by far.
When my teacher doesn't know how to explain something, I find myself on Khan Academy. When I run out of notecards to study for my test, I find myself on Quizlet. In my Spanish classes, when I couldn't conjugate something or couldn't think of a proper term, Spanish Dict was there. In a class full of 30 or more students, a teacher can't be everywhere at once. Rather than constantly needing to speak with my teachers, I have the internet at my fingertips. It's made my learning experience far easier than we ever could have imagined. Not to mention it makes it easier to write my essays, turn in my assignments, and, of course, learn to code the computers easier.
