Ideal Classroom by Elizabeth - October 2014 Scholarship Essay

My ideal classroom environment would involve, what I believe to be the most important element, an enthusiastic instructor. I feel that no matter the class size, if the teacher is excited to teach then we as students will be excited to learn. Any subject has the potential to be interesting as well as challenging. Students need to be engaged in order to absorb and excel at the subjects they are studying. If I can tell the teacher is not interested, my attention is significantly lessened.

I have always been a visual learner. I love to put my hands on materials and "get dirty" so to speak. This is one reason I'm drawn to ceramic art (which is my specialty). What I'd like to do after college is teach ceramic art at a college level. My hope is that while I"m attending college I will study under enthusiastic teachers that love their jobs and want to teach as much as I want to learn, especially because I want to do exactly what they are doing when I am older. This is by far the biggest contributor to, not only a successful classroom environment, but an enjoyable one.

I have attended classes of all sizes. As large as 45 and as small as 12. I've studied under teachers that jump on desks and teachers that hand out photo copies of worksheets and read a personal book the entire class. The more excited the teacher is to be present and teach the subject, the more successful we will be as students.
