My Dream Job by Elizabeth - February 2019 Scholarship Essay

My dream job is to be a preschool or kindergarten teacher. I love working with young children and leaving a good impact on their lives. A college education will help me with this dream because a degree specifically in Early Childhood Education makes me more marketable to schools looking for teachers. I also hope to get a dual degree of some kind so that I can be licensed to teach kindergarten through fifth grade in order to have more job opportunities.

I am looking forward to learning how to create lesson plans and strategies to keep the students engaged and involved in their learning. While I feel that I know a lot about young children, I also feel that I have a lot to learn in order to become a great teacher. I am excited to student teach and get a hands-on learning approach in my own education. My mom was a teacher, my grandma was a teacher, my aunt was a teacher, and I think that my great-grandma was a teacher too. However, I chose this career path for myself!

I have enjoyed caring for young children through babysitting and helping out with church camps like vacation bible school. Teaching is another way for me to feel like I am leaving an impact on someone’s life. Throughout elementary school, I can still remember which teachers were the most invested in making sure that the students in their class enjoyed learning and coming to school. They didn’t always have the most elaborate classroom decorations, but they always greeted me with a smile.

Now I am striving to be one of those teachers. I want to be the kind of teacher that greets each student with a warm smile. I want to be the kind of teacher that truly cares about the students and wants them to have fun at school. A college degree in teaching will help me learn how to successfully teach the students while still having fun. I hope to learn strategies to help my students in learning and in life. I can’t wait to get started!
