Mother's College Success by Elizabeth - December 2016 Scholarship Essay
My proudest school accomplishment in going back to college to earn a degree and maintaining a 3.75 GPA during my first three terms. Going back to college after twenty plus years wasn’t an easy decision. As a mother who works fulltime to provide health care for her family there isn’t much time to spend doing other things, especially for myself. I was worried that I wouldn’t have enough time for my family and that it would be difficult to complete the online courses because of time, distractions and having been out of school so long.
I have found that completing my online courses at the same time my children are doing their homework is the ideal time. This has eliminated my worrying about time and distractions. Unfortunately, the fear of going back to college after being out of school so long happens at the beginning of each term with the new courses. I have been able to eliminated this fear as soon as possible by reading all the information the instructors provide and ask all questions I have. This has helped me worry less once the term starts and has led to three successful terms resulting in a 3.75 GPA.
In conclusion, my school accomplishment I am most proud of is going back to college to earn a degree and maintain a 3.75 GPA. Why, because I wasn’t confident I would be able to go back to college and be successful due to distractions.
