My True Passion for Education by Elisabeth - July 2019 Scholarship Essay
Millions of people around the world can point to something that sparks a true flame of passion within their hearts and minds. For me, the one thing that has always sparked my sincere interest and passion is my desire to acquire knowledge. Ever since I was a little girl, my intense curiosity about the world has been transparent through the hundreds of questions and follow-up questions I have asked. My curiosity has only grown throughout the years. Since I have a true passion to learn and to know, it makes sense that, jointly, I have a passion for education, the purpose of which is to provide knowledge. While, if I am being truly honest, certain aspects of school can, at times, be more tedious than eye opening, education, overall, has given me the opportunity to harness to the fullest my desire for knowledge, thus allowing my passion for knowledge to transform into my passion for education. There are several things that having a passion for education means to me. Having a passion for education means that I sign up for advanced classes so as to acquire more knowledge about the world. Having a passion for education also means sacrificing hours out of the day to, not only study the material, but to really think through the material by analyzing the complex factors that affect the information.
It would be silly to ignore my passion for education, for knowledge, by taking less advanced classes. Less advanced classes reap less knowledge. That is why I have taken advanced classes throughout my school years. For example, I signed up for Honors English 9 in my freshman year of high school. In my sophomore year of high school, I signed up for Honors English 10. In addition to this, I have taken advanced math classes for my grade level. For example, in my freshman year of high school, I signed up for Algebra 2/Trigonometry. By taking this class so early on, I was able to advance to higher levels of math for my grade level. Another example of pursuing my passion to learn by signing up for challenging classes is when I signed up for Advanced Placement European History. This was one of the hardest classes in our school. However, I studied very hard, and I earned an A in both semesters. In addition to this, I earned a five on the Advanced Placement test, the best score possible.
In addition to taking advanced classes, my passion for education means that I think critically through the material I am learning in my classes. For example, in my Advanced Placement European History class, I thought deeply about political, economic, religious, cultural, social, and intellectual factors that influenced the events of the time period we studied, including how one or more factors influenced another factor. While this type of thinking is considered standard procedure in Advanced Placement classes, I embraced this type of critical thinking. By doing so, my perception of history and the world around me grew much more complex.
In conclusion, having a passion for education means many things for me. Ultimately, my passion for education boils down to challenging myself with advanced classes and thinking critically about material in those classes. Above all, I truly love learning and satisfying my endless curiosity about the world. I hope to never stop learning.
