Balancing Good Grades and Mental Health by Elin - August 2022 Scholarship Essay
"Go out with a bang." That is something I hear often, and something I like to implement in my life, by creating meaningful lasts. Senior year is often considered one of the hardest years of high school, since many students, myself included, are taking many honors classes and advanced courses. For example, I will be taking three, year-long AP classes, as well as three additional semester-long honors classes. That is why one of my academic goals for this upcoming school year is to create good study habits for myself, while still maintaining sufficient time to relax, so that I can end high school with a "bang."
While it will be difficult to balance these hard classes, competitive swimming, and extra-curriculars, my mental health is still my top priority. That is why I will be aiming to give myself at least an hour of rest and down time before going to bed each night, to watch movies, read, write in a journal, or even meditate. This will ensure that I won't burn out, so I can be ready to study and have a successful school year.
While rest and relaxation are incredibly important, so, too, is creating good study habits. In order to be successful in my classes this year, I will need to dedicate specific times each day to study, review, and go over the material learned in class. I will take organized, detailed notes in class so that I will easily be able to go over them later. These habits will help me better keep up with the vigorous courses and to stay on top of my assignments.
By being on top of my studying while still making sure I am staying mentally healthy, I will ensure my most successful academic year yet, truly ending my high school years on a high note.
