Why Do I Want To Go To College by Elijah - November 2023 Scholarship Essay
I want to go to college so I can help others because when I was a kid I signed up for boy scouts and since that day we have done a lot of things together to restore the communities and the church we built garden beds for the church food bank, collected and delivered cans, built shelter for wildlife, cleaned disabled men's and women's houses, and restored their backyard, helped people move and gave assistance to anyone who needed it or asked. We started charities for animal shelters and food banks and my favorite was serving veterans donuts, coffee, kolaches, and other beverages for Veterans Day seeing the smiles on their faces brightened my soul.
With community service, I also gained inspiration and wisdom from my fellow scouts and scout masters. They taught me that I could do this my whole life in different careers and told me about their life experiences and how they still do community service in their day to day life. They told me about some careers I could pursue since I loved helping people. I was still undecided until on one of our camping trips a person in the campsite next to us had an allergic reaction I saw my scoutmasters run over and administer an Epi-pen and continually check on him even when he said he was fine but my scoutmasters still personally took him to a hospital. That day I decided my career was going to be a career where I could help others. Troop 500 truly did make me who I am today and inspired my future. That is why when we had to shut down because of lack of funding it hit me hard. I had to say goodbye to my brothers and mentors whom I had spent almost every weekend with for 4 years. The troop may have ended but the inspiration, lessons, goals stay with me to this day.
However, it does not end there due to these experiences and how I grew up. I now have a desire to help others in any way I can. I want to not only help but to lead others who want to give back but just don't know how to. The belief in the effectiveness of teamwork is another trait I developed from Boy Scouts that I still use today. When you get a group of people who want to make a difference in people's lives I believe that there is nothing that you can't accomplish. With my drive to help, belief in teamwork, and experience in community service I believe that I can truly make a difference in the lives of others in need.
