Escape the box by Elijah - October 2018 Scholarship Essay

When people tell me to "Think outside the box" my interpretation of that is to break out of a cage and explore new boundaries. Whenever I am "in the box" I take that as doing something that isn't special and I'm treading lines that have already been explored thousands of times. Thinking outside the box requires creativity, so when I have to think outside the box I try to find new ways to do a task or word a phrase. I break out the old and tattered box and begin to create my own. I may or may not take cues and ideas from the old box but whenever I "think outside the box" I have to create a new way of doing something.
The box isn't bad, it's just overused. Everyone is unique in their own right so thinking in the box should not be possible because the box is universal. The box is accessible to everybody. People come running to it for all the answers, for the things that should be common knowledge. The box holds all the base answers, thinking out of the box means that you get to expand on the idea. The box is the foundation ideas and whenever you get out of it you will be able to build around it. Breaking the box isn't destroying it, breaking the box is simply expanding upon what is already there and sometimes in order to expand and grow you have to destroy the unnecessary materials that are present. After you get rid of the non-essentials then you can begin to build new things.
