Night Owls. by Eh - January 2019 Scholarship Essay

I’m most productive at night so I’m a night owl. In the morning I’m unable to wake up, but because of school I’m required to wake up and go to school. I set plenty of alarms for myself. When my first alarm goes on that tells me I have five minutes to keep sleeping. My second alarm tells me it’s time to get up and brush my teeth, along with showering if I still have time. My other alarms tell me when to change, grab my shoes, jacket, and my last alarm tells me to go walk to the bus stop. On the bus, I catch up on sleep. When I arrive to school, I usually am not much tired anymore. Since there are days where I’m sleepy in the morning, this makes me less productive because my immune system is still trying to function. Whenever I miss breakfast, it’s less likely that I will be productive because food makes my immune system wake up. During first hour in school, I often see students sleeping and ignoring the teacher which makes them less productive because they’re too sleepy to be thinking. In other cases, there are students who are very productive in the morning which makes me confused because I’m not a morning person.
As I was trying to write my answer for this prompt in the morning, I noticed that my mind was blank which happens because it’s too early in the morning to be doing anything in my own perspective. It’s nearly night time as I write this essay and nearly night, which I noticed that my mind is not blank and it’s full of ideas. At night, I’m less sleepy so this makes me more productive. At night, I’m alone which gives me time to think things through because there’s no friends of mine who are going to get me off task. I get more work done at home around night rather than doing it in the morning. I find peace and quiet at night which gives me time to do my school work and I’m less bothered by people. I’m holding a part time job which starts at 4 and ends at 8, but I usually get done around 8:30. My job tells me how productive I am at night because I actually use my brain to receive and give the right amount of change back to my customers.
We are all different, so we’re all productive at different times of the day. Some may be productive in the morning, some in the afternoon, and some are productive at night. There’s many stereotypes about if someone is more productive at night and or in the morning, but we are different and this makes us unique. I have friends who are productive and very outgoing in the morning unlike me, but that does not stop us from being friends.
