The Autobiography of Jane Pittman by Eduardo - July 2013 Scholarship Essay

The best book I ever read for school was the Autobiography of Jane Pittman. The book was so remarkable that I read it about three times. It explains the story of a woman during the time of slavery who over overcame obstacles that no one person of this generation generation could withstand. She dealt with death, abuse, rejection, homelessness, starvation, etc. This book showed me what African Americans went through during the time of slavery and how it was a true struggle to survive. By them showing that bravery and courage during those gruelling times it allowed us to live in the society we live in today making me very grateful for what they did. It also taught that anything is possible and to never give up hope even if it feels like the weight of the world is on your shoulders and the end is near. It has made me have more appreciation for my lifestyle and the time I live in. The thing that shocked me more was that it wasn't a man who was able to withstand this type of life but a woman. She wasn't a large woman but a minute one at that making this book extravagant, unforgettable and the best book I ever read for school and maybe in life.
