Education in 50 Years by Ean - May 2020 Scholarship Essay
Since the earliest civilizations in human history, education has always been a driving force in all aspects of life. From technological developments to medical breakthroughs and unique ideologies/philosophies, education is what moves society as a whole. Nevertheless, education is constantly changing.
Today, students are experiencing possibly the greatest change in their way of learning due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Virtual learning has become prevalent across the country. Already, many institutions offer online classes and learning. In the future, especially after this pandemic, many students and institutions will become more virtualized rather than a physical classroom setting. It is less expensive, able to be done from home, and overall a simpler approach to learning. This means that there will be a decline in buildings being used for learning, and this will impact many industries, mostly the college industry and it will impact the idea of an educational campus.
Another change in fifty years from now will be a focus to a more STEM-based (science, technology, engineering, math) curriculum. In many schools already, classes such as woodworking and metalworking are being replaced with coding and IT classes. There are now many new summer camps in most communities for young students that offer lessons on robotics and basic computer principles. These STEM classes are going to replace many courses that involve the fine arts, such as music and art. The reason for this is that as technology develops at an unprecedented rate, many new jobs will involve knowing how to manage and repair machines, such as artificial intelligence. Many new jobs will also function through a computer, rather than physical human interaction. As the workforce moves in this direction, more and more employees will need a technological background in order to perform well at work.
Education in fifty years will have some drastic changes compared to now. These changes will shape many industries, jobs, and future students' lives.
