Favorite Class Subject by Eamon - April 2013 Scholarship Essay

Having been in a number of fun and challenging courses throughout my life it was difficult to really decide which class would be my favorite. However I would say that overall I have enjoyed the topic of spanish the most. I've been able to achieve a bilingual status and have seen some awesome benefits that come from it. Learning another language is very interesting in it own right, and spanish is one that I have certainly been able to thrive in and enjoy.Learning a new language can be extremely difficult, but once learned the appreciation of everything that goes into it can be seen in a great form. I have a different respect for each language seeing as though they all bring different qualities. English/ Literature Arts was another class on the top of my list because of the way I was able to learn new words, phrases and meanings of the english language, but because it was my native language I was slightly more proud of my accomplishments in spanish. Spanish and english have numerous words the are cognate, which stands true for many of the languages that have come or gone in our history of dialect. Languages connect and differ in forms that have intrigued me since the day I began learning them.I have been able to apply things from my spanish classes to life outside the classroom more than other courses. I love having the ability of having conversations in another language with someone, native to that language or not. A couple summers back my family and I took a trip to Guatemala, a location where spanish is he norm. With what I had attained in spanish knowledge, I was able to spend the 2 weeks there more as a citizen than a tourist and once again appreciate what the previous classes had done. During our stay I also attended a couple classes and learned some variations of the way the language was used there and learn more in general.Along with language, the class gave me a view into the entire spanish culture. Living and knowing just one culture would simply lead to a boring life. Knowing aspects of a variety of cultures contains plenty of pros and can spice up ones life. The teachers in my learning experience have also contributed in a grand way and made the classes even better in their own way.It has been a pleasure to be a part of the spanish classes I have had the opportunity to. I look forward to using what I know and have learned in my future in all possibilities that present themselves. I'm excited to show the world the language skills I've attained in these classes. Until then goodbye and Adios!
