Giving When Given by Dylan - May 2019 Scholarship Essay

As Denzel Washington put it, “At the end of the day it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished… it’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back.” Life is truly not about what others do for you; it is about what you do for others. If I were given a $10,000 grant, I would divide it into ten $1,000 scholarships to help others finance their college education.
This money could go a long way in many places, but I feel that investing in other student’s futures would be the most rewarding. Ten scholarships would provide support to ten individuals, not just one or two. An education is one of the most valuable opportunities you can give an individual, and helping them make the most of the that opportunity is important. From doctors to teachers, giving someone an education helps them give back the community.
This is why I would use the grant to provide scholarships for others. Education is essential and creates opportunities. It is important, rewarding, and cultivating. Giving to others not only makes the giver feel good, but helps creates a wonderful cycle of people helping others while improving each other and the community along the way.
