Schools purpose is to prepare you for whatever profession you would like to do and to prepare you for adult life. Schools do not accomplish this goal because they do not provide a class that shows students what being an adult is like and the new responsibilities they will face.
Currently, high school provides a variety of different classes for a student such as law enforcement, business, and medical terminology. These classes are great for students who are trying to figure out what they are interested in. However these classes do not pertain to all of the students but, a class that I will call "Life" should be taken by all students because it covers everything in adult life that is different from student life and prepares them for it. I am a Senior in high school and I have no idea how to balance a check, when to go and get my oil changed, or how to pay my bills. School has done a fantastic job with helping me determine what I like doing and is why I plan on majoring in Finance in College. However, for someone that is interested in finance, I have to clue how to balance a check or do simple adult things. This new class "Life" needs to be taken by every student regardless of what you want to major in because everyone goes through life.
One more subject this new class would cover is how to handle an emergency or where to go if you find yourself in a sticky situation such as debt. Everyone in college is struggling with money and this class will teach students how to manage their money and how to make the most of it. Not everyone goes to college and students who choose to go straight into the work force after high school can also benefit from this part of the class. They will learn what kind of bank accounts to open, where to find the best discounts, and how to invest their money in the safest way.
Life happens and students need to be prepared for the changes that will come their way as soon as they leave high school. No matter who you are "Life" is a course that can teach you the rights and wrongs of adult life and is the most essential class to take for all students.
