Pursuing my own academic goals. by Douglas - August 2022 Scholarship Essay

Since I am about to begin working on my bachelors this upcoming year, I need to start taking such things like goals more seriously, especially if I want to succeed in any way shape or form. I've started to value the whole concept of goal setting much more lately in regard to my overall education, and as a result have found aiming at a specific worthwhile target makes things infinitely easier in terms of academic achievement.

We frequently establish straightforward objectives that are simple to accomplish since our minds are designed to adore rewards. I personally feel terrific when I achieve a goal that I previously set out to accomplish. Such examples would include, did you work out today? Check. You kept a journal, right? Check. When you keep promises to yourself you tend to have a higher sense of self-worth in general, which then prompts a virtuous circle and starts to compound as a result. This is the domain where I'm able to stack accomplishments on one another and build momentum as a consequence, which inevitably leads to more incremental gains on my part.

But to be more specific with my actual goal for this upcoming school year, I would stress to myself the importance of keeping my overall grades as high as I can possibly sustain them throughout the school year. Since I am pursuing a career in healthcare by becoming a PA, keeping grades at a certain level will greatly increase my chances of being accepted into an already highly competitive program. I am going as a full-time student this year for the first time, which will allow me to channel the majority of my focus on a single goal to excel academically to the best of my abilities.

Additionally, receiving any sort of external support such as grants, and scholarships would prove to be immensely helpful, especially due to the fact that I will be enrolled as a full-time student and will not have the time or mental bandwidth to pursue other activities that will divert my attention elsewhere. Having any outside distractions will ultimately only lead to a poorer outcome in my overall academic performance. I personally feel bad for students who are pressured and stressed due to the fact that they have to, or at least feel the need to take on a heavier load by having a part-time job in order to relief the financial burden on themselves. I truly believe that students should not have to worry about financial needs as much as they currently do while attending school, primarily because it only hinders their overall performance in the classroom.

In conclusion, having both short and long-term goals is critical if you want to succeed in higher education, and even at life in general. Having a clear and concise goal will allow you to articulate the obstacle, which as a consequence forces you to channel most if not all of your energy in achieving said goal.
